Churoka

As we left the small train station at Shigaraki we walked straight to the main road…a couple blocks ahead of us. When we got to the main road we looked across the street and saw a pottery shop so we stopped traffic (I mean…we waited for the light) and went in. We loved his work and he was very kind. His studio is but thirty feet away. He fires his work in an anagama located several miles away.

Koyama Kiyoko

Just at the entrance of Shigaraki Cultural Park there is a road to the right that is the driveway for the studio of a wonderful potter. Follow the URL below for more information from e-yakimono. Koyama-san is, as far as I know, the only women in Japan firing with wood. Koyama-san and her assistant fire the anagama for more than two weeks…by themselves. I had to have one of her pots. To the showroom…

Miho Museum

We didn’t get a chance to go into the Miho but it shouldn’t be missed. Having too much to drink at Tsujimura’s place I guess! We had planned to actually revisit Miho the next afternoon after our visit to Tsujimura-san. Trust me…I wouldn’t have changed a thing.
