Hita

If you’re going to Onda village you have to stay somewhere else. Onda is about a 30 to 40 minute bus ride. Hita has some nice pot shops and is a very nice city. Here are a few images.

Onda

The Koreans settled this area as well as a village in the next valley (name eludes me). The clay is dug from a mountain not far from the village and each pottery family has their own clay processing area using water from the stream to break down the hard clay chunks and then taken to the settling tanks and screen for further processing. Clay is placed in bisque bowls and set out to dry in the sun and sometimes placed on the top of small kilns for drying. There is a small museum at the other end of town from where the bus lets you off. Walking back down the main street to the bus stop there is one, the only one, little eating and drinking place with bowls of chestnuts, and a rest room. Potters were more than willing to allow us to film them and take pictures. If you’re a potter…don’t miss Onda.
