Dave Pike Studio

Stayed at Dave’s place one night. Great place, great studio, wonderful family.

Nara Countryside

These are images we took one morning at Dave Pike’s home. Went for a tour of the countryside. The little building by the stream is used for storing dried hardwood to be used for making charcoal. The pile of burning stuff is actually rice hulls being burned for the ash. Must be burned slowly so the remains are black…if they turn gray they are of no use. Check out the images of Onda and you will see a women drying some dark gray rice hull ash on the cement.

Shiro Tsujimura

Went to visit Tsujimura-san for half an hour and stayed four hours…I think! We had a wonderful time talking over a lunch of vegetables, raw beef, and sake. Toured his studio and rustic tearoom. Read more about Tsujimura-san at the URL below.
